One of the area’s largest and most unique car shows returns for another weekend of fun this Saturday and Sunday. The International Car Show at Schenley Park puts more than 2,000 vehicles on display, showcasing all makes, years and countries. Alongside the various show, vintage races will run throughout the streets of Schenley Park. Dozens of sponsor tents will also be present at the event, providing plenty of food and refreshments. All proceeds benefit the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny Valley School. Shows and races run throughout the weekend, with various events occurring from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday in Schenley Park in Oakland.
After a lot of sweat and very little sleep, the Pittsburgh branch of the world famous 48-Hour Film Project will be showcasing the short films conceived and completed by Pittsburgh in just two days last weekend. Receiving only a short list of required elements — a character name, a prop and a line of dialogue — various filmmakers and their teams created 52 films. One of the world’s largest and oldest film competitions, the 48-Hour Film Festival boasts more than 90 participating cities around the globe. The films will be screened in four groups, with 17 distinct honors being awarded next weekend. Screenings will be held throughout the day on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hollywood Theater in Dormont.
The 6th Annual Polish Hill Arts Festival will provide all-ages entertainment this Sunday. This kid-friendly street festival will include artists, food and live music. More than 30 vendors will be present with hands-on arts and crafts, various food options, and more. Musical performances include Lungs Face Feet, Pandemic, and Married to the Wolf. Vegan and vegetarian options will be available to provide fun for everyone. The festival runs this Sunday from noon until 9 p.m. at the intersection of Brereton and Dobson Streets in Polish Hill.
Taking a quirky approach to a decidedly kitzchy medium, the artists of WildCard gallery in Lawrenceville finish up their two month show Craft Hard: Art Inspired by Action Movies this weekend. The group show features pieces in needlepoint, illustration, and quilting, all inspired by the sweaty brows of Willis, Schwarzenegger, Eastwood and more. Come see the show’s swan song this weekend. The gallery will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at WildCard in the heart of Lawrenceville.
