The women of Continuum Dance Theater opens a new show with a one night event this Saturday. Objects of DESIRE, the latest work by director and choreographer Sarah Parker, plans to “take the audience on a journey through the spectacle that has become ‘chasing the American Dream.’” Constructed from a year’s worth of research, Parker’s piece follows the story of five characters through a fusion of dance and theater performance art. Objects of DESIRE, a world premier from Continuum Dance Theater, runs for one night only this Saturday at 8 p.m. at the New Hazlett Theatre on the Northside.
Arcade Comedy Theater presents a holiday comedy double feature this Saturday. First, in “The Truth About Santa: An Apocalyptic Holiday Tale,” playwright Greg Kotis and the No Name Players take a hard look at good old Saint Nick, finally asking the question, “Who is Santa Claus?” The answer is not recommended for those under the age of 18. Then, Mark Hayward and Jonathan Burns return to Arcade Comedy Theater for the newest installment of their popular comedy-talk-show “Fireside Chat with Mark and Jonathan.” The duo celebrate Christmas with a show stuffed full of surprises and special guests. The popular comedy group from Chicago thrives on suggestions, making each show a unique treat for the audience. Pittsburgh singer-songwriter Kevin Finn flexes his poetic muscles his new collection “Sea of Dust,” the follow-up to his chapbook “Escape Wounds.” Finn celebrates the book’s release with a reading by Finn at Squirrel Hill hangout Dobra Tea this Saturday. Enjoy tea and snacks as you listen to a brand new selection of poems. Three other visiting and local poets join Finn, each reading selections of their own work.
