Last week we ventured to Florida to get an early look at Major League Baseball spring training in the Grapefruit League. This week, we venture west to see the players in action in the Cactus League.
Travel contributor Elaine Labalme says spring training is the time to see a lot of teams in the cactus league that you wouldn’t ordinarily see. Check out a list of her recommendations:
-First on her list is Goodyear Park, in Phoenix Arizona home of Ohio spring training- The Cincinnati Reds share the facility with the Cleveland Indians.
Labalme says, "If you're hankering for some Cincinnati chili, Skyline chili has a stand." Seats are as low as 6 bucks. "Your chili’s gonna cost you more than that!" she says.
-The San Francisco Giants train in Scottsdale, AZ- It's a town that Labalme says has many charms, including an art walk every Thursday and the food truck caravan every Saturday.
-The Dodgers play in a facility at Camelback Ranch- When you're there, she says you've got to stay at the Camelback Inn Resort & Spa and hike Camelback Mountain.
-The Chicago Cubs' spring training park in Mesa, AZ is brand new this season- Labalme recommends visiting the Frank Lloyd Wright home Taliesin West "The garden room looks beautiful at night, so take the night tour," says Labalme.
