PDP Hopes Springtime in Paris Has Nothing on Pittsburgh

There comes a time in Pittsburgh each year when storefronts look more vibrant, the Pirates open their ballpark and the city breathes a collective sigh of relief.

It’s spring, and the Downtown Pittsburgh Partnership wants Pittsburghers to celebrate by dusting off their cameras for a contest.

The PDP’s “Share Your Spring” contest, which opened Wednesday, encourages people to submit photos that capture their excitement for spring in downtown Pittsburgh.

“We’re really wanting to celebrate the return of baseball, and flowers, and the fountain at the Point,” said Leigh White, PDP vice president of marketing and communications. “And all of those beautiful, fun things that Pittsburghers really think about when they think about spring in downtown.”

Participants can submit a photo by tweeting it to @DowntownPitt or posting it on the PDP’s Facebook page with the hashtag #ShareYourSpring. Entries can also be submitted by emailing them to pdp@DowntownPittsburgh.com with “Share Your Spring” as the subject line.

The challenge is to be creative, White said.

“It can be those quiet things that you don’t always think about,” White said. “It could be the opportunity to sit in the middle of Point Park and read a book when you’ve been reading it outside. We’re really looking in a lot of ways for the unexpected.”

The winner, chosen by the PDP staff, will receive a Pittsburgh-themed prize pack, including dance lessons from the Arthur Murray Downtown Dance Center, a $100 gift card to Spa Jema, gift cards to Dream Cream Ice Cream and Dunkin’ Donuts and a private Pilates session from Pilates Sol.

“One of the reasons that we love to do the contest is that our Downtown businesses are so generous with prizes,” White said. “We think it’s a great way to get people to maybe experience some of the businesses downtown that they haven’t before.”

Entries must be submitted by the end of April.
