'We're Glad It's Finally Hot Enough To Complain About How Hot It Is': Social Club June 23

It is officially summertime and in case you forgot, the weather is here to remind you. Luckily for you, WESA’s Josh and Sarah and Yelp Pittsburgh’s Rachel are here to fill you in on the weekend’s summery events.

Leading us into summer is Yelp’s Swingin’ to Summer, this Thursday at 8pm at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum. It will be an evening of jumpin’, jivin’, and jitterin’ to your favorite jazzy tunes. Enjoy all things 1940’s at this fun and unique event. The event is free, but a $10 suggested donation will benefit Soldiers & Sailors. Oh, and wear your red, white and blue.

Need to recover from Yelp’s event? Vodka is the trick! Wigle Whiskey is releasing their first Vodka, Trope, on Friday. Head down to the Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse for Jell-O shots, a Jell-O dish competition judged by Rick Sebak (what!), film trivia and music from The Buckle Downs.

Big event on Saturday! Our sister station, WYEP, is bringing you the WYEP Summer Music Festival. Nothing screams summer more than a music festival. Free music all day long from Lucius, Boy and Bear and Margaret Glaspy. Children’s activities, I Made It Market and the National Aviary will be on hand for extra festival fun. Riding your bike down? Use the Bike PGH bike valet! Enjoy the restaurants and kiosks at Schenley Plaza, maybe while sipping some summertime lemonade. Just don’t invite “Becky with the good hair.” She ruins things.

Remember back in high school when you knew summer was coming because it was time for prom? Remember how anti-climatic prom was? Ours wasn’t anything like 10 Things I Hate About You and we still haven’t gotten over it. Luckily for us, Prom Do-Over 2016 “10,000 Leagues Under the City” is this Saturday at James Street Gastropub & Speakeasy. Break out those old tuxes and dresses because there is a contest for best dressed and a crowning of the prom king and queen. THE CROWN WILL FINALLY BE OURS! VENGEANCE WILL BE OURS! Whoa, sorry about that. High school flash backs. Anyway, there will be food, music and more, so check it out.

The Steel City Pet Expo is this Saturday at Monroeville Convention Center. Tons of pet-friendly exhibitors will be there, including giveaways, demonstrations and more. Learn about fun ideas of things you can do with your pets all summer long. Bring your pet!  Side note, they are having a costume contest so forget Halloween and dress up that dog to win a prize.

Vine Rewind is this Sunday at Pittsburgh Winery. This first-time event is a perfect way to spend your summer Sunday, with an all-day music festival and neighborhood block party. Buzz Poets are performing, plus many more. Yes, there will be wine.

“Get your towels ready, it’s about to go down.” Attack Theatre’s: We’re On A Boat party is Tuesday, June 28th at the Lock Wall One Marina in the Strip District.  Attack Theatre is celebrating 21 years. Come on down for cocktails, celebration and fun. Be sure to go nuts using The Lonely Island lyrics in all your social media postings.

Happy summer everyone! Put on your sunscreen, don’t get sunburned!
