The inaugural Keystone Burlesque and Variety Festival launches with a Teaser Weekend event in Pittsburgh May 24-25, 2024. The showcases will take place in the city’s Allentown neighborhood, at the Storyville Lounge (a speakeasy behind Dr. Tumblety’s Time-Inspired Specialty Shop) and new Spirits Distillery next door.
The Keystone Festival will feature two showcases on the Spirits Distillery stage – each show will feature different casts of Pennsylvania performers, as well as acts from across North America. After each show, there will be a private party in the Storyville Lounge with intimate performances and hand-crafted, Prohibition-style cocktails. Audience members will be encouraged to come dressed for a Prohibition party on Friday and for a Vegas-style Rat Pack bash on Saturday. Audiences will not want to miss a single show or party!
The artists in Getting the Spirit Out, the 2024 Distillery Artist Residency Exhibition have created a group of works that feel distinctly alive — channeling spirits and visualizing the unseen energy around us. Though they all work in very different ways, using a variety of different media and processes, and draw on unique cultural backgrounds, the artists in this year’s Distillery cohort all use their practice to give life — to history, memory, suffering, and joy — and to set their creative spirits free. This year’s Artists-in-Residence are Imani Batts, Armanis Fuentes, Finn Dugan, Joshua Challen Ice, Evangeline Mensah-Agyekum, Sophie Thompson, and Caroline Yoo.
