Employee Of Pittsburgh Public Schools Under Self-Quarantine; Staff, Students Not Exposed

Pittsburgh Public Schools district headquarters.

Pittsburgh Public Schools said an employee will be under self-quarantine for the next two weeks, though the district is not concerned the woman has exposed students or staff.

The PPS employee’s college-aged child, who lives in the eastern part of Pennsylvania, was exposed to coronavirus at a conference in Washington, DC. The district said because the employee was quarantined prior to her child returning home to Pittsburgh, “there is no concern that our students, staff or families are at risk.”

The district said that neither the woman nor her child have tested positive for COVID-19. It’s unclear if they’ve been tested, or if they have received their results back from the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s lab in Exton, Chester County, or been tested at all.

Pittsburgh Colfax K-8 will be closed Thursday for cleaning, the Pittsburgh Public Schools district announced, after a student at the school had possible exposure to the coronavirus from a relative outside of school. There are still no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Allegheny County.
