Database Will Keep Track of Kids Served By the State

The Department of Human Services has established an electronic case management system that will keep track of the children served by the state.

Cathy Utz, the Deputy Secretary for Children, Youth and Families for the Department of Human Services, said there was previously no statewide database.

She said there was a gap in the system and caseworkers had to rely on a family or child to self-report if they had received services in another county.

Most other states have a similar system in place.

The database will only available those who work with the children. The information maintained will be biographical, services received and contact sheets.

“It would not include specific medical records from a doctor nor would it include specific school records or report cards or those types of things,” said Utz.

The database was created under Act 29 of 2014, which was introduced as Senate Bill 24.
