Authorities are trying to find out who stole more than two dozen street signs from a western Pennsylvania township over the weekend — and why.
The (Johnstown) Tribune-Democrat reports that police say 29 street signs were taken from roadways in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County — many of them along the Somerset Pike corridor.
Chief Vincent Zangaglia says authorities are concerned that emergency responders might have trouble finding a location in a medical emergency, fire or other crisis with so many signs gone.
If that happens, he said, that could mean more serious consequences for whoever took the signs, which were "busted" from their brackets. Replacing the 29 signs would cost $1,300 — and officials fear more may have been taken than have been reported missing.
