More Space Coming to Pittsburgh International Business Park Near Airport

Ground has been broken for the fourth building at the Pittsburgh International Business Park in Moon Township.

The new building, on Cherrington Parkway, has no announced tenants yet, but that’s not a concern, said Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald.

“We broke ground over the last couple of years on three of them that are now full,” he said. “They are full with tech companies, engineering companies and mortgage service companies.”

The addition of a fourth building is expected to add jobs in the area further spur economic growth. Fitzgerald said this development is one part of a larger development picture across the entire region.

“Our challenge is starting to become managing growth,” he said, “managing growth when it comes to road systems and water systems and sewer systems. That’s not a problem we’ve had for a number of decades and now we’re kind of challenged with that a little bit.”

Acting Director of the Allegheny County Airport Authority, Jim Gill, said Pittsburgh International Airport plays an important role in economic development in the region. For one, it ensures air service to and from the region, he said.

“But it’s also in developing key pieces of property like this one to attract new industry and new jobs to the region, and we’ve realized benefits from that," Gill said. "Over the last couple of years we’ve seen our bond rating at the airport be as high as it’s ever been before, and as the economy has improved we’ve also seen air service and demand for flights improve as well.”

The site of the business park is owned by Allegheny County. It's leased to the Airport Authority and is being developed in conjunction with the Moon Transportation Authority. The project is built and managed by Continental/Chaska LLC.
