Repurposing refers to finding new uses for items. Some enterprising entrepreneurs have even turned this into a profitable moneymaking venture.
This week business contributor Rebecca Harris looks at the business of repurposing.
Harris emphasizes that repurposingdoesn’t just change the use of old goods; it also changes their value.
It’s not a new movement, Harris acknowledges, but repurposing has taken on a new and trendy identity in recent years, as it’s an ecologically friendly practice and at the same time satisfies consumers’ ambition to have distinctive, one-of-a-kind items.
Locally, Harris says, this repurposing movement can be seen in local retail institutions like the Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse, the Ideas Vintage Marketin Sewickley and Construction Junction.
