The first post-election campaign finance reports show the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy spent more than $800,000 in cash and in-kind contributions in its bid to get voters to support a parks tax. That number includes a last-minute $19,000 mailing sent out by the conservancy in the final days of the election season.

Four city councilors introduced legislation on Tuesday that would scrutinize the city's relationship to the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, calling for a review of all working agreements with the organization.

Employees of Pittsburgh's parks community and advocates who utilize park spaces want more diversity in leadership roles. This will make minorities feel more comfortable in outdoor spaces, they said at the fourth Pennsylvania Parks and Recreation Exchange, held at Frick Park on Friday.

The oldest park in Pittsburgh is getting a facelift. A section of Allegheny Commons around a popular Northside fountain will be rebuilt this summer.

The Allegheny Commons Initiative is a volunteer group, that up until recently was handling most park matters. The group wanted to undergo a multimillion dollar project that would restore the park to its heyday, but was met with some funding challenges.

So the Initiative partnered with Northside Leadership Conference, and with the Pittsburgh Park Conservancy.
