The man known for hit songs like "Chances Are," "Misty" and "It's Not For Me To Say," Johnny Mathis, is coming to Pittsburgh next week to perform with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra as part of the PSO's Thursday Icons Series. Mr. Mathis will talk about a career in which he has sold millions of records as well as aspects of his personal life including his battle with alcoholism. (starts at 13:06)
Pittsburgh's Heroin Problem (starts at 0:00)
Heroin use in the Pittsburgh region has quintupled since the 1980s, and in 2014, over 300 people died from heroin overdoses in Allegheny County. Pennsylvania is near the top of the all states for drug overdose deaths, with those deaths now surpassing those related to car accidents. We'll talk with Allegheny County Medical Examiner Dr. Karl Williams about the region's heroin problem and how it should be addressed.
Acceptance Journeys – Pittsburgh (starts at 34:12)
Members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community are represented through photographs and memories in a new project aimed to reduce discrimination and stigma in Pittsburgh. Acceptance Journeys—Pittsburgh is a work by Dr. Sarah Krier, program director and research specialist with the HIV Prevention and Care Project and the Pitt Public Health Department of Infectious Disease and Microbiology.
