The Tribune Review will drop its print edition after Novermber.

The Confluence – where the news comes together is 90.5 WESA’s weekly news program.

Each week reporters, editors and bloggers join veteran journalists, and host, Kevin Gavin. They’ll go behind the headlines, taking an in-depth look at the stories important to the Pittsburgh region.

This week it was announced that beginning in December Pittsburgh will become a one newspaper town. We'll look at the impact the Tribune Review dropping its print edition has on the city's journalism landscape. Health issues are also in the news. We'll  discuss Governor Tom Wolf's urging of state lawmakers to combat PA's opioid epidemic and Mylan CEO Heather Bresch's  Epipen profits testimony on Capitol Hill. Our look ahead, looks back at golf legend Arnold Palmer.

Stop the Presses

This week the Tribune Review announced it will cease publication of its print edition after Nov. 30. This will make Pittsburgh a one newspaper town. How else will it impact the future of journalism in Pittsburgh? We’ll pose that question to Andy Conte, director of the Center for Media Innovation at Point Park University and Duquesne University journalism professor Margaret Patterson.

Mylan/Epipen

Mylan CEO Heather Bresch testified in front of a House Oversight Committee last week. The issue is the profits the company has made from its EpiPen drug. Mylan is being cited as exemplifying the public’s mistrust of big pharmaceutical companies. Joining us with a look at this story are Wes Venteicher, reporter for the Tribune Review and Len Boselovic, reporter for the Post-Gazette.

Opioid Epidemic

In an effort to slow the opioid epidemic taking place in Pennsylvania, Governor Tom Wolf is urging lawmakers to pass measures to address the problem. Covering this special joint session which took place Wednesday are Associated Press reporter Marc Levy and Ben Allen, reporter for WITF in Harrisburg.

Remembering Arnold Palmer

The sports world is mourning the loss of golfer Arnold Palmer. The Latrobe native passed away last Sunday. For sportswriter Marino Parascenzo covering Palmer was personal. We’ll speak with him about his memories of the golfing legend known as “The King.”
